In these days the city was full of excitement for the election of Barak Obama, but it was also the host of the African summit on the conflict in Congo and full of other international events. Contrary to what might suggest some common sense on African cities, Nairobi has always been a very busy and bustling city, full of traffic, industries and banks, international institutions and an active civil society and diverse.
In recent years however there have been some changes that were almost obscured by attention to the predominantly African disaster: in a few years there has been a real revolution politica, che ha comportato trasformazioni importanti nel funzionamento delle istituzioni e nel loro rapporto con la società e che ha anche permesso di intraprendere percorsi inediti nelle politiche urbane. Anche se con problemi che sono rimasti irrisolti, con lentezze, con fenomeni di blocco e con il permanere di squilibri, a Nairobi questo ha favorito una diminuzione almeno relativa della sensazione di paura che era diffusa anche solo pochi anni fa.
Nei prossimi giorni, a commento di queste foto vorrei scrivere due post: uno su scienza, tecnologia e innovazione, l'altro su alcune questioni connesse alla possibilità di conseguire lo sviluppo urbano sostenibile.
